OUR SCHEME USING THE NHS WHEELCHAIR VOUCHER SCHEME
You may qualify for a free NHS WHEELCHAIR VOUCHER towards the cost of a better wheelchair from us. The following notes are a very abridged guide to the regulations.  We are able to work closely with the Wheelchair Services and will happily give you further guidance and advice free of charge.
Our scheme utilizing the NHS wheelchair voucher will provide the quality powerchair suited to your needs and a cost effect means to cover the insurance, servicing and repairs for up to 5 years, exactly the requirement for the secure application of the NHS Wheelchair Voucher Scheme.
Basic outline guide to the Provision of Wheelchairs under the NHS Wheelchair Voucher Scheme
In all cases, it is important that you have an assessment by a clinical professional to ensure that the chair meets your clinical needs.  From this a specification is drawn up for your particular requirements, which the NHS calls your STANDARD prescription.  It is our opinion this is an error, because this means you will be supplied with a STANDARD WHEELCHAIR. What you will appreciate from this is that this is not a specific chair that you would wish to have, but is a standard vehicle. Once your personal standard has been reached, you have 2 options available to you.
The Options.:
1.
The NHS Option.
The NHS will provide on free loan what they call a "Standard Wheelchair".  And that is defined in the regulations as " a wheelchair which is no more expensive than that which is, in the opinion of the NHS Trust, clinically necessary for the user"
What they actually mean is that you  will get free of charge, the cheapest wheelchair that meets your agreed specification, and this will be selected and maintained free of charge by the NHS.
As an alternative, you can enter into a "Partnership" with the NHS, where you contribute to a limited range of more expensive wheelchairs, which the NHS have selected, providing of course that it meets or exceeds your personal "Standard". Even though you pay the difference, the wheelchair remains the property of the NHS, who will pay for maintenance and servicing, and is only loaned to you.
2.
The Voucher Option.
This option allows you to pick your chair from the vast array of models on the market, allowing you to find the one that provides what you need and in a style and comfort you desire. Under the Voucher Scheme, you are not restricted to the NHS range.  As long as it meets or exceeds your "Standard", the NHS will give you a voucher which you can use in part payment of the overall cost.  The value of the voucher is assessed at the cost of a "Standard Wheelchair" for your particular needs, PLUS what they estimate to be the  cost of maintenance and repairs of the chair during the period until it is expected to need replacement in 5 years time.
The wheelchair is not loaned to you by the NHS, but becomes your own property, and you are responsible for all insurance, maintenance and repair, whether it costs less, or more, than the allowance you have been given. This is where our scheme provides the added benefit to you.
OUR PLANNED CARE AND SUPPORT
Our scheme adds a total care and support element to you, which includes fully comprehensive insurance, servicing, which includes batteries and tyres. Having already been used with Wheelchair Vouchers this ensures that you will enjoy complete peace of mind at a minimal monthly cost, rather than the uncertainty of repairs etc when these are required..

Please be aware of the following points, but we would be happy to discuss these with you
1.
In all cases, the NHS remains responsible for assessment, training, and, if considered clinically necessary, the provision of special seating/pressure relieving cushions.
2.
It is essential that you contact NHS Wheelchair Services, before committing yourself to purchase, since there is no provision in the scheme for retrospective funding.
